Inflated News is part of the Grand Affairs Group who operate a number of companies related to entertainment, events, sports education and inflatable play sectors.

In December 2006 it was announced that the draft prEN14960 standard had been ACCEPTED as a European Standard. The British Standards Institute (BSI) are the UK body responsible for the Standard and released BS EN 14960:2006 on the 30th March 2007.

The Standard is only available by purchase from BSI and is copyrighted. Inflated News has purchased a copy and we are attempting to make contact with BSI to clarify what information we will be able to release without being in breach of copyright.

It was unclear whether or not the BS EN 14960:2006 Standard would be implemented immediately on its release or whether there would be ' running in' period. Members of AIMODS and IPMA have agreed that as from 1st January 2008 all new units will be manufactured to the new standard.

It is fairly safe to assume that our Information Sheet 7 contains most of the items that will affect operators. We will try to get permission from BSI to continue to produce this information sheet now that BS EN 14960:2006 standard has been released. It is possible they may well refuse and we will have to withdraw the sheet. In the meantime we suggest you print a copy off for your records.

In respect of testing it would be advisable to get your equipment tested by a registered RPII tester. These testers will be able to test to the new Standard and most will be able to issue a PIPA tag/certificate if required. In any event I would advise that you do use RPII registered testers even if you prefer to not have a PIPA Tag/Certificate.

Inflated News has been advising that we believed that this Standard would eventually come in for over 2 years. The day has arrived. All the debate is finished. If you are a manufacturer/operator or tester the BS EN 14960:2006 applies to you.

Operators should note that when buying new or secondhand equipment you will need to ensure that all the information contained in Section 6 of the Standard is available. You should also note that if you sell secondhand equipment you then become the Supplier and you will have to provide all the information in Section 6 to the buyer.
